Cinema Release: Max Riemelt in „Etwas ganz besonderes“

26. Juni 2026

Great news for film enthusiasts: Max Riemelt is returning to the big screen this summer in a powerful leading role. In „Etwas ganz Besonderes“ (international title: „Home Stories“), the eagerly awaited third feature film by director and screenwriter Eva Trobisch (Alles ist gut, Ivo), Riemelt once again showcases the impressive depth of his acting range. The sensitive and painfully honest family drama will celebrate its nationwide German theatrical release on July 9, 2026.

The narrative centers on young Lea (newcomer Frida Homemann), who throws herself into an identity crisis after applying for a reality casting show. Max Riemelt takes on the pivotal leading role of her father, Matze—a man desperately trying to hold everything together amidst mounting family and economic chaos. The family is on the brink of collapse: their local guesthouse, the Waldhotel, is fighting for survival in a remote East German town, while Matze must simultaneously cope with a fresh separation from his wife Rieke (Gina Henkel), who is pregnant by another man.

In February the movie celebrates its premiere at Berlinale. Critics are already praising the stellar ensemble cast, anchored by Max Riemelt’s nuanced and emotionally profound portrayal of Matze. He stars alongside brilliant co-stars including Florian Lukas, Eva Löbau, Peter René Lüdicke, and Rahel Ohm.

With „Etwas ganz Besonderes„, Max Riemelt proves yet again his fine instinct for complex, multi-layered characters.
