German TV Debut for „About Luis“ on November 15

4. November 2026

The drama „About Luis“ (original German title: „Es geht um Luis“) will celebrate its free-TV debut on November 15, 2026, at 10:30 PM on SWR. The film will be available on the ARD Mediathek starting November 13.

In this stage play adaptation, late-thirties parents Constanze and Jens struggle to manage a highly stressful daily life. Their situation escalates dramatically when their ten-year-old son Luis starts facing severe problems at school. The parents find themselves torn between conforming to societal expectations and attempting to protect their son. Their core values are put to a tough test as they initially underestimate how heavily Luis is being bullied by other children and how urgently he needs professional help.

School bullying is a topic where multiple subjective perceptions often clash, frequently leading to downplaying or outright ignorance: the bully blames the victim, the school stays out of it, and parents are wrapped up in their own struggles. The only person who truly knows what daily harassment feels like is the victim. Yet director Lucia Chiarla almost completely excludes this very person in her second feature film following „Reise nach Jerusalem“: the titular primary school child appears only as a voice on the phone. Instead of his personal perspective, the film focuses on what the news of bullying does to those around him — especially his parents.

The film is directed by Lucia Chiarla. The cast features Natalia Rudziewicz (as Constanze), Max Riemelt (as Jens), Franziska Troegner, Aziz Capkurt, Ruben Dietze, Mahigir Naser, Adele Fuhrmann, and Elisabeth Wasserscheid.
