Production Start for “The Best Father in the World”
On August 4, filming began for “The Best Father in the World”, the feature debut of director Sven Gielnik. Max Riemelt takes on the leading role of Jan, alongside young actor Milo Eisenblätter as his son Fridolin.
At the heart of the tragicomedy lies the tender yet precarious father-son relationship between Jan and Fridolin. Living far away with his mother, Frido only sees his father during school holidays. For the twelve-year-old, Jan is the “best father in the world” – adventurous, full of life, and always ready for surprises. But behind Jan’s façade as the perfect holiday dad hides a severe alcohol problem that increasingly overshadows their time together.
Filming is currently underway in the greater Stuttgart area and will later move to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the Baltic Sea. Starring alongside Max and Milo are Eva Bay and Ella Morgen. The film is produced by Montavia Filmproduktion GmbH in co-production with SWR and WDR, with support from MFG Baden-Württemberg and MV Filmförderung.
