Theatrical release for “The Tasters” on March 27 in Italy
Under the Italian title “Le assaggiatrici”, the historical drama “The Tasters” will be released in Italian cinemas on March 27, 2025. Directed by Silvio Soldini, Max Riemelt plays “Albert Ziegler” in one of the leading roles.
The movie is based on the novel “Le assaggiatrici” by Rosella Postorin and takes place in the autumn of 1943. Young Rosa flees bombed-out Berlin and arrives in a small, remote village near the eastern border. Her parents-in-law live there and her husband, who is serving at the front, has written to her to find refuge there while he awaits his return. Rosa soon discovers that the seemingly quiet village is hiding a secret: Hitler has his headquarters, the Wolf’s Lair, in the forest it borders. The Führer sees enemies everywhere, his obsession is to be poisoned. One morning at dawn, Rosa and other young women are abducted from the village to taste the food cooked for him. Torn between fear of death and hunger, the tasters form alliances, friendships and secret pacts.
“The Tasters” will be shown in Italy even before its official theatrical release: on March 22 at the BIF&ST in Bari, on March 24 in Milan, on March 25 in Bolzano and on March 26 in Rome. Unfortunately, it is not yet clear when the film will also be shown in Germany and other countries.
