The plot takes place in the summer of 1990 in Halberstadt, Saxony-Anhalt. Maren, Robert, and Volker have been best friends since childhood. During the chaotic days following the fall of the Berlin Wall and just before the German monetary union, the trio accidentally stumbles upon a major secret: vast amounts of paper East German Marks have been dumped into old underground mine shafts to rot. Together, they devise a daring scheme to exchange the technically worthless currency into hard Deutsche Marks right before the deadline.

The main roles are played by Sandra Hüller (as Maren), Max Riemelt (as Robert), and Ronald Zehrfeld (as Volker). The film is directed by Natja Brunckhorst
